Why School Committee?

My interest in running for School Committee centers around “Advocacy for Education”. I have held leadership positions in the Education Technology field for over 20 years and currently hold a Director-level position at a leading technology company.
I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology and have been a college educator for over 20 years. This past year, I celebrated my 20th year teaching at Middlesex Community College and my 10th year at Northeastern University. I teach Sociology of the Family, Race and Ethnicity and Engaging Differences and Diversity. My most important role as an educator is being a mom to my two sons; teaching them and leading by example.
I believe advocacy starts with listening. Asking our students, parents/caregivers, teachers and administrators “what is working well and where can we improve”. Let’s have that dialog together.
Then collaborating and innovating together on how to implement and sustain the best programs to support our evolving education needs.
I understand the importance of supporting the complexities of the “total student”, which is based on an inclusive environment that promotes academic, social and emotional success for all our students. The last two years have forced all of us to be in “reactive mode” for everything. I look forward to being an active voice in shifting the conversation and planning for the future.
For the last 12 years, I have had the opportunity to successfully advocate for resources to support our education initiatives in Bedford. Some of my proudest accomplishments include:
